In the past few years, we have taken some inspiration from our friends across the pond when it comes to celebrations for expecting mums.
Baby showers are becoming increasingly popular, with what started as a gathering in someone’s home with some homemade cake and a few games, is now turning into more lavish celebrations and enviable gifts, such as designer nappy bags.
If you know a friend or relative that is expecting and would like to throw them a baby shower, then read on for further ideas on the themes that you can create for your celebrations!
One for the summer months! BBQs are synonymous with friends and family coming together to eat and enjoy the warm weather.
If you want to make the BBQ a little more formal and fitting, you can include a rustic table setting featuring gingham napkins and bold flowers such as sunflowers. The great thing about a BBQ theme is that male guests will feel just as comfortable, and may even take over most of the work!
And what does hot weather call for? Ice cream sundaes of course! Why not have a sundae station with a variety of toppings? From chocolate, marshmallows, fudge, chopped nuts and hot sauces, ice cream sundaes would be the perfect end to a BBQ.
Afternoon tea is a firm British past time, so while we are using a celebration with American roots, why not put a British stamp on it!
Whether hosting an afternoon tea at a venue, or at home, it will always be a quant occasion to be remembered. Tea from cups and saucers, bite-sized pieces of both sweet and savoury deliciousness accompanied with table settings featuring English garden favourites such as lavender, roses and baby’s’ breath (so fitting!) and muted tones, a perfect afternoon for an English rose.
Throw in a flower crown, and it almost borders on hipster too! Tea party’s call for old-fashioned sweet shop favourites and a perfect favour for this vintage theme could be paper bags filled with strawberry bonbons and sherbet lemons.
The chances are, the mum-to-be wants to be off her feet as much as possible by the time her baby shower rolls around! With this in mind, a spa day is always going to go down well!
While there may be treatments that are unsuitable such as certain aromatherapy treatments, or using a sauna or Jacuzzi, there are plenty of other activities to be enjoyed, such as a gentle swim, specialist pregnancy massages or hand and foot treatments!
It’s a great chance to spend time in an environment that is solely focused on rest and relaxation.
Baby Book Day
A little quirky, but none the less a lovely idea!
A baby book shower is where guests are invited to bring along a book that they enjoyed as a child, read to their children or used to help them raise their children. This puts an extra personal edge on the event, the gifts that are brought have value and meaning to those that give them and have a practical element to them also.
You could incorporate the theme of the mom-to-be’s favourite book into the day with the decoration, food and the games.
Cute as Candy
Whimsical and kitsch with pastel hues, this candy coloured theme lends itself well to a baby shower. And of course, what’s better than a pick and mix table with sweet-filled glass jars, ribbon decorations, a cotton candy machine, milk bottle vases and a burlap table runner?
These elements make for a perfect, Pinterest worthy baby shower.
Gender Reveal Party
Why not combine a baby shower with the reveal of the sex of the baby? A gender reveal party builds up the excitement and anticipation of the day, and there are a number of ways it can be done!
You can of course, use the decorations to disclose the gender, or opt for a neutral theme and use a prop such as bringing out a cake in either pink or blue or pop a balloon with coloured glitter that indicates the sex.
This way the party can have more of an elegant, adult theme with hints here and there.
For more inspiration, why not consider some of the mum to be’s favourite things such as favourite city, colour or past time, and use this as the base for the theme for the shower? Happy planning!
